ESTATES AND GRAPES

 Our vineyards.

The farm’s vineyard area consists of three estates located in the heart of the D.O.C. Cirò: Mancuso, Feudo and Difesa Piana, for a total area of about 100 hectares. The training system adopted is mainly the horizontal spurred cordon, a small part is “alberello”.

The yields vary between 50 and 80 quintals per hectare, with a production per vine of 1-1.5 kg. The most important operations in the vineyard are carried out strictly by hand. The workings of the land are reduced to limit erosion and save biodiversity, all carried out with organic farming. The vines grown are only  indigenous, true heritage of Calabria: Gaglioppo, Greco Bianco, Calabrese, Pecorello, Greco Nero and others ….

OUR GRAPES

We grow only native vines in our vineyards. We have gained the awareness that only in this way can we tell the story of this corner of Calabria.

GAGLIOPPO

It is the most cultivated autochthonous cultivar in Calabria. In the wine-growing area of Cirò, by far the most extensive and where Gaglioppo was mentioned at the end of the 1700s, it is the main black grape variety but it is present almost everywhere in the region, although more widespread on the Ionian side. It is a medium-late ripening vine (in the third decade of September – first decade of October).
The wines are elegant, fine, medium tannic, medium-bodied.

CALABRESE

Inserted in the National Register of Vine Varieties under the name of Calabrese, it is one of the main Sicilian vines, always present also in Calabria, with particular concentration on the Ionian coast in the territory of Reggio Calabria, exactly in Bivongi. It is a medium-ripening vine (in the second decade of September).
It gives life to perfumed wines, with good coloration, sapid, full-bodied, medium tannic.

GRECO BIANCO

As the basis of Cirò bianco, it is one of the main native Calabrian white grape varieties. It is mainly cultivated along the Ionian coast (in addition to Cirotano, in Locride and in Bivongio). It is a medium-late ripening vine (in the third decade of September).
It gives life to fresh, medium-perfumed, Mediterranean wines that are easy to drink.

PECORELLO

Pecorello is moderately cultivated in Calabria, in particular in the area of Donnici (Rogliano Calabro). In this area, Pecorello is already listed at the end of the 19th century among white wine grapes. The presence of this cultivar outside the region is not known. A few years ago there has been a massive resurgence in the Cirò area. It is a medium-ripening vine (in the first and second decade of September).
From Pecorello you get elegant white wines, fine, salty minerality with good freshness and acidity.
